Lauren González: ¿Qué tal? Efectivamente una decisión histórica que se celebra hoy en toda la nación, y precisamente aquí a nivel local, activistas de los derechos para parejas del mismo sexo se unieron a esta celebración.

Myrna Maysonet: Jamás pensamos que este día iba a pasar.

Lauren González: Luego de años de espera, la comunidad homosexual celebró hoy la decisión que quedará marcada para siempre en la historia del país. El matrimonio entre parejas del mismo sexo ya es legal en los 50 estados. Para la activista local y abogada Myrna Maysonet, la noticia no pudo llegar en mejor momento, justo cuando hace pocos meses la Florida también lo anunció.

Myrna Maysonet: La Corte Suprema ha decido que el amor es el amor, y tenemos un derecho fundamental a casarse, y eso solamente puede ayudar a la familia.

Lauren Gonzáles: Maysonet asegura que esta comunidad de la cual hace parte, finalmente vio la recompensa de tantos años de lucha. Ahora si podrán disfrutar de los mismos derechos que tiene un matrimonio heterosexual.

Myrna Maysonet: Ahora, las parejas homosexuales y las parejas heterosexuales están en el mismo nivel. Por ejemplo, yo me caso con mi pareja, adoptamos un niño. Es como si una pareja regular lo adoptara, somos ahora padres de ese niño. No importa nada, porque ahora el matrimonio de nosotros es válido.

Lauren Gonzáles: La decisión también aplica para esas parejas en donde algún miembro se encuentre indocumentado, pero no le brindaría ningún amparo migratorio.

Myrna Maysonet: El hecho de que se pueden casar no quiere decir que pueden estar aquí, pero ciertamente es un “Sí. Ganamos. Ahora se puede casar con una persona que es inmigrante y su matrimonio será tan válido como los matrimonios heterosexuales.”

Lauren Gonzáles: Y luego de esta decisión, Estados Unidos se convierte en el país número 21 en todo el mundo en legalizar el matrimonio entre parejas del mismo sexo. Soy Lauren Gonzáles desde Orlando, ahora seguimos con más en el estudio. Adelante.
